Canopy

Canopy refers to the tree area inside a city block, neighborhood, and increasing larger scales. More trees, more canopy, more tree benefits. On public and private property, we plant and tend for canopy growth, while human activities involving land clearing remove canopy. Winds and ice from summer and winter storms reduce canopy, sometimes severely.

As an example, Tuten Park in Lake Charles suffered severe canopy loss from storms in 2020 and 2021. Replanting is helping.
